Technology. Unilamellar liposomes prepared by ultrasonic irradiation avoiding any contamination with metal particles.

Potential Industry Applications. Biomedical laboratory studies; product not approved for human use.

Advantages of APD Life Science’s Approach. One-pot approach uses sterile container and external irradiation under atmospheric [eliminates oxidation] and temperature control.

General Process Description. User defined compositions [up to 450 mgm total lipid per mL] are prepared using endotoxin free reagents. End product is sterile filtered and packaged to user specification. Particle size analysis provided on request.

Service Status. Procedures "up-and-running", and validated by customer use, with system consisting of triglyceride, phospholipid, sterol and sterol ester.

Who is APD Life Science? A successor to BioPore, Inc., and formed in 2003 by Roy H. Hammerstedt, PhD, an Emeritus Professor at Penn State University with 40 years of experience in chemistry/physiology. Poised to license four technologies to end users on behalf of BioPore and/or APD Life Sciences. Developed and completed two NIH Phase-II SBIR grants [detection of bacteria in platelet containers, and cryostorage of cells and tissues].

APD Life Science’s Business Model. After in-house development and validation, license of protocols for large scale applications is recommended.
